With this horrible pandemic hitting us, work from home has become a lifestyle for most of us. Most companies are permitting their employees to work from home. As comfortable as working from home sounds, it can get too comfortable and there is a tendency to lose motivation which takes a toll on productivity and efficiency. Here are some tips and hacks to keep up the spirit while working from home:
When you are working from home, it is very important to make a schedule. Sitting at home all day, losing track of time is very natural. But managing time is the key to productivity and efficiency. While making schedule, prioritize your work. It is important to make the schedule a little flexible. Give enough time for each activity. The schedule has to be realistic. A schedule you can truly follow because if you can’t, the schedule is pointless. Add breaks in your schedule. Overworking will drain you out.
Working from home can get cosy, comfortable. It is important to be comfortable but make sure you don’t get too comfortable. Try not to work from your bed because there is a high probability that you might fall asleep. But however, if you have to work from your bed, make sure you make your bed as soon as you get up and put away your pillows. Choose a spot with the least distractions, away from the TV, away from the bedroom or any other distractions at home. Choosing the right workspace is key. It has to be comfortable but not too comfortable.
Once you have made a schedule, set reminders and alarms. Your first reminder is to waking up on time. Always think you are going out to work and wake up accordingly. If you wake up late, you’ll reach office late, which might result in a loss of pay. Have the mindset of going to work and wake up on time. Do not snooze your reminders/ alarms. Start doing whatever your reminder reminds you immediately.
Working from home means you are going to be using your laptops/ phones/ tablets. Since you are at home, you will want to watch one episode on Netflix or check social media. But no, you cannot afford to that because let’s face it, its never one episode. Log out from your Netflix/ amazon prime or any streaming platform when you are working. Mute all notification from social media.
When you are making a schedule, make time for Netflix, social media, or anything else you want to do. After all, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Obviously, when you are at work, you won’t be working 24 hours. So, make time for your hobbies also. Give yourself some time for relaxation, self-care, and family time. This will really help because when you have made time for everything, nothing can disturb you when you are working.
It is very important to set boundaries. This is the time when a lot of families are trying to fit in quality family time. Make sure they are aware of your work timings, this way they won’t feel you’re avoiding them and also, they will give your space and will make sure they don’t cause you any distractions.
The most important thing to remember whether you are working from home or working in the office, you always have to believe in your work. The company is going to keep a check on you. But you have to believe in yourself, believe that you are doing a great job!
Put up your favorite motivational quotes in your workspace. Watch motivational and inspirational videos online, read a book, talk to people who can keep your morale high. Do not lose motivation or inspiration. Always be motivated and inspired to be productive and efficient.
In these difficult times, take care of yourself and the people around you. Take care of your physical and mental health. Get your work done, but don’t forget to relax. Drink lots of water, eat your meals, get some exercise, find a hobby and practice it every day.
Once you have a balanced life, productivity and efficiency will follow. Be kind to yourself and to others. We will get through this.
